FAQ: the questions sellers ask about a French EPR representative
Direct answer: The questions below are the ones sellers established outside France ask when a marketplace requests a French EPR number and a representative. Each answer cites the text or the published rule it rests on, and none of them tells you whether your company is a producer: it is you who determine that, with the criteria on the reference page.
Ten questions, answered from the texts and from what the eco-organisations and marketplaces publish. For the full picture, read how it works; for the contract, the mandate; for the numbers, the number check; for the prices, pricing.
FAQ
Amazon asks me for a "French EPR registration number". What is it?
The unique identifier (IDU) issued by the French agency ADEME, through an eco-organisation, to a company registered in a French EPR scheme. Format FRxxxxxx_xx, one per category. Amazon's help pages also call it UIN or ERN. The page on the number check shows the format and the public register.
Is a representative in France compulsory for me?
The Code de l'environnement (article L. 541-10-9-1, applicable since 10 July 2026) provides that a producer not established in France designates a representative established in France for the schemes it falls under, unless someone established in France already carries out those obligations for it. Whether your company falls under a scheme is a determination you make from the texts; this site gives the criteria and does not make it for you.
I only ship in cardboard boxes I buy empty. Which category is that?
French texts classify the shipping packaging of a sale to a household as household packaging, and the producer of a packaging as the one who first places it on the French market. Who is the producer of a box bought empty is not settled by any published source we have read; the packaging page reports the texts and the open question, and you decide with your adviser.
How many numbers will I get?
One per category in which you register. Three categories ticked, three numbers, each forwarded as the eco-organisation issues it.
What does the mandate commit me to?
Exact and up-to-date data on your products and volumes, payment of the plan, payment of the eco-contributions before they are passed on, information on any change, and no second representative for the same category without telling us. The full text is on /mandate/ and is version-dated.
What does MyEPR cost, and is there anything else?
Starter €29 a month or €249 a year, Pro €59 a month or €590 a year, Complete €89 a month or €890 a year, €12 a month per additional category beyond six, up to eight. 12-month plan, no setup fee, no deposit, no French VAT added. The eco-contributions are separate and go to the eco-organisations.
Who pays the eco-contributions, and when?
You do. Each eco-organisation invoices them at its published rates; under the mandate they are re-invoiced to you at cost and paid by you before they are passed on. The representative does not advance them.
Does Amazon's "Pay on Behalf" replace the number?
According to Amazon's own help pages, read on 12 October 2026, the number is requested even from sellers enrolled in that service for packaging; the service covers the calculation, declaration and payment of contributions for sales on Amazon.fr and nothing else. We report what Amazon publishes; we are not affiliated with Amazon.
In which languages do you work?
English and Chinese on this site; the mandate text is in English with the French legal references, and the French version of the law prevails. Support by e-mail in English.
What happens at the end of the twelve months?
The mandate renews for twelve months unless either party gives written notice two months before the end of the term. On termination, the representative informs the eco-organisations and ADEME, returns the records and stops acting; appointing a new representative is then your decision.
