French EPR number check: what the number looks like and where to look it up

Updated 15 October 2026 · by Bachir Djebaili, founder of REP·Pro

Direct answer: A French EPR number (IDU, UIN) has the format FRxxxxxx_xx: FR, six digits, an underscore, two digits. There is one per EPR category, issued by ADEME through the eco-organisation after registration, and listed in ADEME's public producer register. This page explains the format and where to look; it does not state that a number is valid, invalid or missing, because only the register and the eco-organisation can.

The format

A French unique identifier reads FR + six digits + _ + two digits, for instance FR123456_01. The eco-organisation communicates it after registration; ADEME, the French agency that keeps the national producer register (SYDEREP), is the issuer. Marketplaces call it EPR registration number (Amazon: ERN or UIN), EPR number (eBay, Etsy) or IDU (Cdiscount, French sellers).

Where the public register is

ADEME publishes the list of registered producers and their identifiers as open data: data.ademe.fr — producers with a unique identifier (read on 15 October 2026). The dataset gives, per identifier, the company, the scheme and the eco-organisation. If you hold a number and want to see what the register says about it, that is the place; if you buy from a supplier who says it is already registered, the register is where its number can be read.

What this page does not do

It does not say that a number is valid, invalid or missing, it does not say which category your products fall under, and it does not say that your company is a producer. It is you who determine, from the texts and the eco-organisations' published rules, which registrations apply to what you sell; the reference page gives the criteria. If you decide to register and want a representative established in France to do it under mandate, start here.

FAQ

Can MyEPR tell me whether my number is valid?

No. Validity is a fact of the ADEME register and of the eco-organisation that registered you. This page gives you the format and the link to the public register; you look the number up yourself and read what the register says.

Why does Amazon ask for several numbers?

Because there is one French EPR number per category. Amazon's compliance screen lists categories (packaging, electrical equipment, batteries, textiles, furniture and others) and expects a number for each one you tick; the number of a packaging registration does not cover electrical equipment.

What does the "_01" at the end mean?

The two digits after the underscore distinguish the registrations of the same company: a producer registered in two schemes receives two numbers with the same six-digit root and different endings. The format itself is set by ADEME.

I have a number from another EU country: is it valid in France?

No. EPR registration is national: a German LUCID number or an Italian register number does not replace the French identifier. Each country keeps its own register and its own eco-organisations.
