French EPR for batteries and accumulators
Direct answer: Batteries and accumulators placed on the French market, sold alone or built into a device, fall under the French batteries scheme, in step with the European batteries regulation. The approved eco-organisations for portable batteries are ecosystem and Batribox. The producer is the one who first places the battery on the French market, including inside a product; a producer established abroad can appoint an authorised representative established in France. One unique identifier for the scheme.
What falls in this category
Primary batteries and rechargeable accumulators of every chemistry, sold alone or inside equipment: button cells, AA and AAA cells, lithium packs of tools and e-bikes, batteries of connected objects and toys. The declaration is by category (portable, automotive, industrial, light means of transport), chemistry and weight, per period.
Who the texts call the producer
The person who first places the battery on the French market: the manufacturer, the importer, or the seller at a distance from abroad, including when the battery is inside a product. A seller established abroad shipping battery-powered devices to French customers is in that position for the batteries as well as for the devices; it may appoint an authorised representative established in France. The determination is yours, from the texts.
The eco-organisations
For portable batteries two eco-organisations are approved by the French state: ecosystem and Batribox. Automotive and industrial batteries have their own operators; the other schemes page names them. The producer joins one; the contribution follows its published scale.
The number and the marking
One unique identifier for the scheme, FRxxxxxx_xx, in the ADEME register. Batteries carry the crossed-out bin symbol; the eco-organisation provides the files. Marketplaces list batteries as a separate line, in addition to electrical equipment. How to read the number →
What MyEPR does for this category
Under the mandate, REP·Pro, established in France, joins the eco-organisation you choose for this category, obtains your unique identifier, files the declarations from the volumes you provide and remains your contact in France. The eco-contributions are invoiced by the eco-organisation at its published rates and re-invoiced to you at cost; the plan price is the only fee. One category is the Starter plan (€29 a month or €249 a year, 12-month plan); with other categories it counts towards Pro or Complete. Pricing · Mandate · How it works.
FAQ
A device sold with its battery: do I declare the battery?
Yes, in the batteries scheme, in addition to the device in the WEEE scheme. The declaration counts the batteries placed on the market, by chemistry and weight, including those inside equipment.
Portable, industrial or automotive batteries?
The scheme distinguishes portable batteries (sealed, hand-carried), automotive batteries and industrial batteries, including light-vehicle batteries. The eco-organisations and the declaration categories differ; you determine the category from the product.
How is the contribution calculated?
By weight and chemistry according to the eco-organisation's published scale. The representative files from the figures you provide; the contribution is re-invoiced to you at cost.
