French EPR for electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

Updated 15 October 2026 · by Bachir Djebaili, founder of REP·Pro

Direct answer: Electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE, in French DEEE) covers anything that needs electric current or an electromagnetic field to work: lamps, chargers, small appliances, tools, toys with electronics, connected objects. The French eco-organisations approved for household and professional equipment are ecosystem and Ecologic. The producer is the one who first places the equipment on the French market; a producer established abroad can appoint an authorised representative established in France. One unique identifier for the scheme.

What falls in this category

Equipment that depends on electric current or electromagnetic fields to perform at least one function, and equipment for the generation, transfer and measurement of such currents: small and large appliances, IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, lamps and luminaires, electrical tools, electronic toys, medical devices, monitoring instruments, dispensers. The French classification follows the European one in categories by size and function, which is how the declaration is structured.

Who the texts call the producer

The person who manufactures the equipment in France, imports it, or sells it at a distance from abroad to a French user, under its own name or brand or as the first to place it on the French market. A seller established outside France who ships equipment to French customers from its own warehouse falls in the last case; a seller using a French fulfilment centre still is, in the eco-organisations' published guides, the one who placed the goods on the market. These are the texts; the determination is yours.

The eco-organisations

Two eco-organisations are approved by the French state for electrical and electronic equipment: ecosystem and Ecologic, each for household and professional equipment. The producer joins one; the contribution follows the eco-organisation's published scale, per unit and per category, with modulations. For lamps and photovoltaic panels specific operators exist; the other schemes page names them.

The number and the marking

One unique identifier for the scheme, FRxxxxxx_xx, in the ADEME register. The equipment carries the crossed-out bin symbol; the eco-organisation provides the files. Marketplaces ask for the WEEE number in its own line, separate from packaging. How to read the number →

What MyEPR does for this category

Under the mandate, REP·Pro, established in France, joins the eco-organisation you choose for this category, obtains your unique identifier, files the declarations from the volumes you provide and remains your contact in France. The eco-contributions are invoiced by the eco-organisation at its published rates and re-invoiced to you at cost; the plan price is the only fee. One category is the Starter plan (€29 a month or €249 a year, 12-month plan); with other categories it counts towards Pro or Complete. Pricing · Mandate · How it works.

This page describes the French texts and the service. It is you who determine whether your products fall under this category and whether your company is the producer: the criteria are those of the texts, and the eco-organisations publish their own guides. MyEPR registers you for the categories you tick; it does not decide them for you.

FAQ

Does a product with a battery count as electrical equipment?

If it works with electric current, yes; the battery inside it also falls under the batteries scheme, which is a separate registration with its own number. A lamp with a rechargeable battery is thus two categories.

Household or professional equipment?

The scheme distinguishes equipment likely to be used by households from equipment designed for professional use only. The eco-organisations register both; the contribution scales differ. You determine the category of your products from their design and their market.

What does the declaration contain?

Units and weights placed on the French market per period, by equipment category of the French classification. The representative files from the figures you provide; the eco-organisation's scale sets the contribution.
